There are a lot to read then to play in this book which I like.
前幾天吃了一頓記念離校三十年的飯局。這年紀的朋友話題離不開那三五個，我最沒興趣答的是朋友問有關工作的，如果問者三十年來都不記得我是幹什麼 的, 我再說一遍也沒意思。
這些場合我一般不帶名片，解釋是如果你這些年來不知我是誰，幹什麼，沒有業務上接觸，那麼你除了知道我是當年同窗什麼也沒必要知道。其實＂大話＂當 年（因沒人記得清楚真相），論論＂起錨＂或＂超錯＂，最近聼什麼音樂或巴西會否拿世盃，身體有什麼毛病，做什麼運動，小朋友＂拍拖＂未、這些總比知道你又 升 (或降）一級或拿多了一個什麼學位有談論趣味。
The iOS 4 upgrade was done in 43 minutes, basically painless and trouble free.
The WordPress app 2.5 has been updated. The one I'm concerned about is whether there'll be new features such as Polar's WearLink+ pairing in the Nike+ app. Too bad it isn't there yet. What's bad is that all history is gone leaving me only total distance done and best km. I also have to calibrate it again.
多年來我心中的版本是只有 C. R. T. 後來多了一個 T. 現成了 CRTT.
C (Creditability) 是信用, R (Reliability) 是可靠, T (Transparency) 是透明，最後的 T (Traceability) 是可追蹤性。這是我多年來實踐結論。因不是會計專業所以不會似某些機構用什麼 ratio 比例或每人頭能賺多少錢 ... 等等來管理。喜歡用數字管的並不是管人是被數字管著。
一個 operation 或機構也就是一個機器，好的機器就似潤滑足夠的齒輪裝置連著一個飛輪，人們對機器的期望是可靠，機器的產品或輸出能經常在人的預期內便是＂可靠＂。那個飛 輪的慣性（inertia) 就是團隊文化。
＂透明 ＂相對難度比較高，這個做法也有幾個深層意義。透明是同事（老闆也在其中）之間互動的，也是雙向的。一般老闆只會發號令，不會覺得同事對指令背後意義、背 景等有知情權或學習上的需要。不是所有＂阿頭＂都覺得要向下對團隊負責，阿頭又不是區議員。＂透明＂就是要在團隊間找共識，做思想工作，以便方針推行順 利。話雖如此，我經常在討論或向同僚報告前聲明，我可做的可能只是假民主（他們心中的）但這姿態有總好過無，透明這個文化也是用作鞏固＂信用＂的。
最後這個 T ＂可追蹤性＂其實也是用作鞏固＂信用＂。所有團隊應該是不斷在學習和改進中，如果不能追蹤錯的根源，怎能知錯能改？ 我經常說「錯不是問題，不知錯（或錯在那裡）才是大問題！」。這個文化亦都令到同事們不會除便說了而不去守承諾。在我的行業我們十分不環保因我們要大量紙 張（但比證卷業替公司上市的好一點吧）而且一個合約可延續五至六年（做上二十多年才可結算計數也見過）之久，為此我經常要求團隊事無大小都要寫下來及要全 面數碼化，既可少用紙又方面尋找。當Google Desktop Search 未面世之前 (2004) 我已在辨公室用 Desktop Search 軟件。最近的例子是塌樹事件，真佩服那些政府的＂樹木專業＂說他們的檢查表格什麼也沒有，誰人做，怎樣做，＂看＂了多久，什麼方法查也不記下。不知錯在那 裏怎樣改？ 幸好那些官員不是做核電站的。
有諺語說只要不說謊就不要記得說過什麼。問題是年紀大了想記也記不來，而且電腦及互聯網的發達是會令 人變蠢的。我們不能只靠記憶, 所說所寫的會成仲裁上用的供詞。
其實最後這個 T 是不用加上去的，只要記住 C.R.T. 便可。
最近在書店看到一本書的標題是＂預知能力＂(predictability)。一個正確的團隊文化最後的結果就是離不開＂預知能力＂。無論是工作流 程 (business process), 對家反應及策略, 預算（budget）等等老闆們都希望有充份的掌握，不要嚇死人的＂驚喜＂。
人基本上對未來都有一些恐懼，但未發生的永遠都令人充滿憧憬 (今年生意多少, 賺多少..), 信幸運也許有一天會到來。這樣造成求神、問卜，算命，掌相…等等，永遠有市場。少年時跟我三叔學了一些三腳貓功夫，看人總有一點主觀及凡事都猜動機，其實 是想當偵探。奇情偵探電影是我喜歡的片種，就是喜歡有那些似＂金田一＂或神探＂伽利略＂一樣的預知能力，早知結局及兇手是誰。工作上也一樣希望事事在掌握 及預計之內。希望內僚們也多培養＂預知能力＂。
It wasn't too long ago that I first tried the Nike+ iPod combination. Then in March last year I bought iPod Touch to work with Nike+. I should have waited few more months because Nike+ App was built into iPhone 3GS launched last June. All along heart rate monitoring has been missing from the Nike+ running gears.
In April Adidas overtook Nike+ by introducing miCoach, I tried that immediately. There are similarity between the products such as (1) put it on (2) run (3) upload your data to their site. miCoach offers vocal coaching while you run and in my opinion their website looks/works better. The difference is a gadget clipped onto my shirt.
To compete 'time to market' is the key so instead of developing something on their own Nike+ decided to work with Polar, here it is below, available now in the US for $70. Currently only 5th Gen iPod nano supports this I'm sure when iOS 4.0 rolls out end of June the updated Nike+ App will be able to pair with this.
Will I try this, don't know yet, I'll see what vocal narration is available and how Nike+'s website will look like by then. It'll be attractive to me because I don't need that gadget (not waterproof, can't run in rain) clipped on my shirt and in the middle of the cable between my iPhone and the earphone. I can't run without a phone, music, additional gadget seems unnecessary unless it's really useful in tracking my workouts.
在途中聽了 Peter Paul and Mary Bob Dylan 的 Blowing in the wind 把幾樣事連起來。首先是朋友在這裡的題目，第一條不太難，對讀科學 技術的我第一條的答案是令我答錯第二條的主因。我把第二條當作數學題，主觀地找一個字去滿足三個條件 (conditions)，就這樣覺得 "this"這字可用便算了，交卷，走人。看清楚原來那是哲學題。我應再想一想如果有一個＂this" 可以滿足三個條件，那麼這個＂this" 定是 "nothing"。本來無一物，何處覓那 "this" 呢？ 我的思維就是給少年時的數學訓練弄壞了，只怪香港沒有把哲學放進課程，數學/邏輯/哲學其實是分不開。 Blowing in the wind 的歌詞抄錄如下：

作者就是在找答案，其實答案就在風中，風中對他說了什麼，你我都知道！王守仁看著竹子想＂格物窮理", 我也想早上跑步時迎著風找到人生意義，可惜經常是半夢半醒，給音樂帶到數百年前的世界，只能忘卻了昨天的煩惱，風說了什麼就是聽不到。 只好繼續跑，風會繼續吹，一定會有聽得懂的一天。
The default zone setting is far too narrow at the yellow zone in which I should be running most of the time in order not to overstress myself. I believe the zone setting was generated automatically after the initial assessment workout.
From above the yellow zone is 7 beats inclusive of its boundaries which is far too narrow. I manually set it again to have 12 beats so my target is not to run beyond 166 BPM. Below is today's record using the new zone setting.
From below I see that I have been lazy for the first 5 months this year. I normally run 3 times per week last year but only 2 this year. I ran longer distance, a minimum of 5k, each time this year. By the numbers I need to work harder.

There must be thousands of blog posts and articles out there about the debate HTML vs Flash. Apple recently published a page here showing the world a demo of what HTML5 can do. It's very interesting.Flash has been around for awhile and a lot of people have spent endless hours learning/developing around this it's understandable that people have resistance to change. I don't code for a living, productivity isn't a concern therefore I like trying new things. I don't like Flash, a poorly designed site using Flash can easily put customers away, e.g. the Nike+ site, the original one is terrible the updated one is slightly better but still a CPU hog. The latest competitor to Nike+ is Adidas' miCoach their site is also built on Flash since it's pretty new so it's less CPU demanding and better looking in my opinion. I have just tried Apple's demo page (Safari only) and watched the short video the CPU usage is below 10% in my late 2009 MacBook Pro 13".
New member to the fleet, it's a HP netbook
It's running Windows 7 Starter Edition, with only 1G RAM, it's really pretty slow.
After setting it up I then killed the Vista that came with this Toshiba M600 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 in it. The usual steps after installing ubuntu are (1) software update (2) install flash (3) install Chrome browser (4) install Java. However Java 6 have been removed from the Multiverse section of the Ubuntu archive, so I had to use terminal to do this.
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner" sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
The above didn't finish well in terminal I had to run Update Manager to complete the configuration of Java 6.
I have a few computers at home, one of them is 3 years old tower type desktop PC. There is also a M600 notebook which is now 2 years old. Also this 13" MBP which I use for work. Ever since I have mobile broadband instead of fixed installation I can't allow 2 computers to access internet at the same time. So I needed below. It's said that this gadget allows SIM by other carrier, I'll be trying that later.
